Entrance Assessment

For Grade 7, applicants complete an entrance assessment and interview. Branksome does not provide a detailed public description of the academic assessment on its current Middle School admissions page. Applicants are, however, required to prepare an "All About Me" portfolio for the interview. The portfolio includes a teacher-marked writing sample, a teacher-marked mathematics test, discussion of a school project, and examples of interests or accomplishments.

For Grade 9, applicants may choose between the Branksome Hall Entrance Test and the SSAT, with no preference given to either option. The Branksome test is 90 minutes long and consists of 60 minutes of mathematics and 30 minutes of English.

Admissions Process

Applicants submit an online application, identification documents and relevant report cards. Interviews form part of the admissions process for major entry grades.

For Grade 7, the student begins the interview by presenting her portfolio and answering questions. Parents or guardians then join the discussion.

Key Insights

Branksome has four clearly identified major entry grades: JK, Grade 1, Grade 7 and Grade 9.

Grade 7 includes a distinctive portfolio component. Applicants bring teacher-marked work and materials that help the school learn about their academic work, interests and accomplishments.

Grade 9 applicants can choose between Branksome's own test and the SSAT. Branksome states that neither option is preferred in the admissions process.
