Entry Requirements by Grade

St. Michaels University School, commonly known as SMUS, explicitly recommends different entry years for each division.

Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten are the recommended Junior School entry points. Grade 6 is the recommended entry year for Middle School, and Grade 9 is the recommended entry year for Senior School day students.

Entrance Assessment

For Middle and Senior School applicants, SMUS does not use a single standardized entrance test for every student.

The school states that its entrance testing is unique to each applicant. Previous test scores and qualifications are considered, and the assessment is adjusted accordingly. SMUS describes the testing as an assessment of the applicant's current skills rather than a test that can be specifically prepared for.

For Senior School day applicants, a campus visit usually includes two assessments and two interviews, one with an admissions associate and another with a faculty member.

SMUS does not publish a universal topic-by-topic syllabus or sample entrance test because the assessment varies by applicant.

For boarding applicants, SMUS recognizes the SSAT and may consider it instead of its own entrance testing. The school also accepts PSAT results.

Admissions Process

Applicants create an account through the SMUS Admissions Portal and submit the required application materials.

For Middle and Senior School applicants, these include current school information and contact details for a current teacher reference. Students also provide information about their involvement in academics, arts, athletics, interests and future goals.

After the application and supporting documents are reviewed, applicants are invited for a campus visit that can include:

• entrance testing;

• a school tour;

• meetings with staff and faculty; and

• the opportunity to spend time in classes.

The application is then reviewed as a whole rather than decided solely on entrance-test performance. SMUS explicitly states that there is no pass or fail score for its entrance testing.
