The Senior School process changes significantly beginning in Grade 8. Applicants to Grades 8 through 12 are required to complete the SSAT, which York House uses to assess verbal, mathematics and reading skills. They must also complete the Character Skills Snapshot.
Grade 8 applicants additionally participate in group assessment activities.
Admissions Process
Applicants submit an online application together with school reports and other educational documents. York House also requires two recommendation forms, one relating to the family and one relating to the applicant.
Assessment and interview requirements vary by grade. Grade 5 applicants may progress to an observational day and parent interview, while shortlisted Grade 8 applicants and their parents are invited to interviews after completing the required assessments.
Key Insights
Grade 8 is York House's principal Senior School entry point. York House specifically identifies Grade 8 as an intake year, while spaces in later grades are more limited.
Senior School applicants complete two standardized assessment components. Grades 8 through 12 require both the SSAT and Character Skills Snapshot.
Grade 8 includes an additional group assessment. The process therefore evaluates applicants beyond their SSAT results alone.
Junior School testing is curriculum-oriented. Grades 1 through 7 are assessed using grade-normed math, reading and writing exercises.
