Crescent School Admissions Requirements

Toronto, Ontario

Entry Requirements by Grade

Crescent accepts applications across multiple grades. Its published admissions information shows larger new-student intake at Grades 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 than in the adjacent grades, where availability is more limited.

Entry Year Assessment Other Requirements
Grade 1 Age-appropriate activities focused on play, curiosity, creativity and collaboration Experience Crescent Day and family interview
Grades 3 and 5 Experience Crescent Day Interview by invitation, school records and teacher assessment form
Grade 7 Mathematics and literacy assessment with multiple-choice and short-answer questions Experience Crescent Day and interview by invitation
Grade 9 Mathematics and literacy assessment with multiple-choice and short-answer questions Interview by invitation

Entrance Assessment

For Grades 7 and 9, applicants complete an age-appropriate assessment covering mathematics and literacy. The assessment includes both multiple-choice and short-answer questions. Crescent states that no special preparation is required.

Crescent collaborates with Royal St. George's College and The York School on the Grade 7 and Grade 9 assessment. Students applying to more than one of the three schools need to write the assessment only once.

Admissions Process

Applicants submit an online application, report cards, identification and a teacher assessment form completed by a homeroom or core-subject teacher.

For Grades 7 and 9, interviews are by invitation only after applications have been reviewed. Grade 7 applicants also participate in a mandatory Experience Crescent Day.

Crescent states that entrance testing is only one part of its admissions process and that report cards are its main source of information about an applicant's academic potential.

Key Insights

The Grade 7 and Grade 9 test assesses both mathematics and literacy. Students encounter multiple-choice and short-answer questions rather than a single question format.

Crescent shares its Grade 7 and Grade 9 assessment with RSGC and The York School. A student applying to all three schools does not need to sit three separate tests.

Grade 7 includes more than an entrance test. Applicants also participate in Experience Crescent Day, while interviews are offered to selected candidates.

Report cards carry significant weight. Crescent explicitly states that they remain its main source of information about academic potential.
