Mulgrave School Admissions Requirements

West Vancouver, British Columbia

Entry Requirements by Grade

Mulgrave identifies Preschool ages 3 and 4, Kindergarten, Grade 7 and Grade 10 as its intake years. Admission to other grades generally depends on spaces becoming available through attrition.

Grades 1 and 2 Small-group assessment involving academic and non-academic activities Shortlisted applicants attend an additional group visit
Grades 3 to 6 Online assessment and individual interview Shortlisted applicants attend a group visit

Grade 10 Academic assessment plus writing exercise Remote interview, with some candidates completing a second interview, group discussion and math placement test

Entrance Assessment

For Grades 7 through 11, all applicants complete Mulgrave's academic assessment and a writing exercise. The academic assessment can be completed at Mulgrave or remotely for applicants outside the Lower Mainland.

Mulgrave explicitly states that it does not require the SSAT.

Applicants to Grades 7 through 11 also complete a short remote interview. Some shortlisted Grade 7 to 9 applicants meet with a school principal or vice-principal for an additional interview. Some shortlisted Grade 10 and 11 applicants participate in a group discussion and complete a short math placement test.

For younger applicants, the process varies by grade. Grades 1 and 2 complete small-group activities, while Grades 3 through 6 complete an online assessment and individual interview before selected applicants progress to a group visit.

Admissions Process

Applicants complete an online application and submit supporting documents. For Grades 1 through 11, Mulgrave requests a Confidential Teacher Observation Form, although the school acknowledges that some teachers may not be able to complete it.

Interviews, assessments, school records and teacher observations are used as part of the admissions decision. Mulgrave states that it considers whether students will benefit from its programs and contribute their abilities, curiosity and interests to the school community.

Key Insights

Grade 7 and Grade 10 are Mulgrave's main school-age intake years. The school explicitly identifies these grades alongside its early-years entry points.

Mulgrave does not require the SSAT. Grades 7 through 11 complete the school's own academic assessment and writing exercise.

Writing is explicitly part of the older-student assessment. This distinguishes Mulgrave from schools whose published requirements focus primarily on standardized mathematics and verbal testing.

The process becomes more layered for shortlisted applicants. Some Middle School candidates complete a second interview, while selected Grade 10 and 11 candidates may also participate in a group discussion and math placement test.
